Leeds firm fined over safety breach

A Leeds based woodworking firm has been fined for safety breaches after stacks of boards fell onto two employees and injured both of them in August 2012.
The accident happened when a fork-lift truck which was working closely with two pedestrians during a lifting operation, hit a stack of boards knocking into one worker, who then fell onto a second stack, which fell on a second worker. As a result of the incident one employee broke both his legs.
The Health and Safety Executive investigated and prosecuted the firm who pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It was fined £8,000 and ordered to pay £7,438 costs.
