A family run Cleckheaton based HR, Employment Law and Health & Safety Company has successfully launched its own charity with the aim and purpose of helping homeless people living rough on the street back into work. The Howarth Foundation received charitable status with the specific objectives of, “The prevention or relief of poverty in respect of individuals who are, or who have recently been, homeless in the districts of Leeds and Kirklees, by actively sourcing employers willing to offer employment and by providing those individuals with support and guidance, as to be determined by the Trustees, to successfully obtain such employment.”   Local business man and Founder of The Howarth Foundation, Andy Howarth has been involved in various fund raising initiatives for local charities and good causes for many years but has always harboured a desire to put his energies into a slightly more difficult and sometimes controversial cause of the homeless. Andy said, “We raised a not insignificant amount of money for local charities and whilst all are good causes, I felt that helping the homeless was not only a good cause but frankly a needier one. Some of the charities that we have supported in the past are very well patronised by big corporates such as the banks and the cash we raised was a drop in the ocean, but would make a significant difference to those sleeping rough. The Howarth Foundation has already secured the support of many local businesses who have offered to provide work for suitable candidates. Many local businesses are keen to support grass roots local charities and economically it makes no sense for fit able bodied or otherwise individuals to be sleeping rough with no work to go to and no prospect of a decent future when there are clearly opportunities out there for them.” The Howarth Foundation intend to raise funds by staging events such as the already popular Music Extravaganza that has been a favourite for the past three years and this year will be held at the Cedar Court, Ainley Top Huddersfield in November and will feature some top acts. Any business wanting to get involved in this event either as a sponsor or just to treat their staff to a great night out should contact Natalie Wells, Business Development Manager of The Howarth Foundation on 01274 864999.
