Project: Supporting a growing school with ongoing HR and employment law consultancy

Rastrick High School is a mixed-sex secondary school in Rastrick, West Yorkshire. The school holds ‘academy’ status. Pupil numbers at the school total 1,500, ranging in age from 11 to 18. The school employs circa 200 staff across teaching and none-teaching.

How it all began

Our work with Rastrick High School started around 2014. Initially looking to Howarths for support and advice surrounding employment law issues, the school has continued to work alongside us to develop staff policies and procedures as its staff and pupil numbers continue to grow.

Originally operating with no formal HR department, the school formed a trusted relationship with the Howarths team and has continued to work closely alongside us to develop and implement various staff and work policies.

Supporting the development of policies and procedures

As a business that is fully committed to doing things the right way, Rastrick High School has worked with us to ensure the proper development of disciplinary, grievance and equality policies among others, and the schools HR lead works alongside us as a first line of support, both face-to-face and over the phone.

Our head of employment law and business immigration, Charlotte Geesin, has worked closely with the school to provide support around areas including staff performance, ensuring the school achieves a fair and positive outcome to ensure both the integrity of employees and the school.

In the client’s words…

“I am a member of the Howarths HR Hub group and find this an extremely useful platform to meet like-minded individuals from different backgrounds, who can offer different perspectives.    I have also attended several workshops over the years which have helped me in terms of my own learning and development while studying for my CIPD qualifications. Howarths offer excellent seminars in terms of helping clients to understand new legislation and as part of this provide clear and concise literature handouts.

“I cannot recommend Howarths highly enough.  We have seen the team grow from a small family business into a corporate and respected company, while maintaining a personal touch with clients.  The staff at Howarths are friendly, professional and above all are human which is so important in terms of really working with and understanding the clients that they are supporting.

“We hope that our successful working relationship will continue to grow from strength to strength.”
