History Within Engineering & Manufacturing
Our history in the sector has seen us develop long-standing working relationships as the bolt-on HR and employment law team for some of the country’s most well-known manufacturers and engineers. The type of support we offer within this sector focuses on core issues including changing terms and conditions around shift work, sickness and lateness and disciplinaries.
Client Reliance
We also act as an outsourced health and safety team for many manufacturing businesses that don’t have in-house resource, and liaise closely with in-house health and safety managers to provide expert guidance and a sounding board for issues around health and safety processes and compliance.
Many of our engineering and manufacturing clients also rely on us to deliver regular health and safety reviews and training to their workforce, ensuring staying safe and compliant at work is always at the top of the agenda.
IN FOCUS CASE STUDY
MANUFACTURING
XL Joinery
XL Joinery is one of the UK’s best-known manufacturers of market-leading internal and external wooden doors. The company is recognised as one of the most prestigious in the in the UK builders’ merchant and retail sectors.
Supplying almost half-a-million doors each year from its HQ in West Yorkshire, XL Joinery is a successful, high-turnover business that is rapidly growing and working hard towards future expansion.
Building foundations for successful HR
As the ambitious team at XL Joinery continued its journey, the business began to grow. Naturally, this exciting growth meant more staff and the recruitment of new managers into the business, including the addition of a dedicated HR manager.
Working alongside the HR manager, Howarths helped to establish some key HR foundations. This included items such as reviewing the XL’s HR and employment law documentation, helping to ensure it was fully legally compliant and fit for the growing business, as well as redrafting new documentation to use as XL continued to expand its team.
This process helped to ensure everything was up to date and gave the XL team a strong HR foundation to work with.
Working with the senior team
XL Joinery’s people are key to the company’s ongoing success, and the business invests in ensuring that its managers are ready to deal with any challenge.
To support this, Howarths has delivered a variety of bespoke management training programmes to further develop the management team’s understanding of HR processes so they can confidently handle HR issues within their own teams.
This has included specific learning around the reasons behind individual HR processes and why they happen and developing an understanding of the company’s HR needs and the types of issues that may arise.
Howarths is now delighted to continue to work alongside XL’s in-house HR team should our support be required. We’re always happy to head across and see the team to offer one-to-one support, and we’re a phone call away should they need us.
