Plenty going on at Howarths during the month of March. I hope it’s been the same for you.
We’ve been presenting a lot of management training over these last four weeks. More and more businesses are realising the importance of their management team if they are to realise growth ambitions. Managers that are empowered, engaged, capable and held accountable are critical for scaling to the next level.
On that note, during the last week of March we welcomed Jabbar Sardar, Global HR Director for BBC Studios, to speak at our CPG event. A long career in HR, and now looking after over 6000 staff, he knows a thing or two about people! Jabbar spoke passionately of the importance of empowerment, engagement, and capability across the whole business, but particularly across senior leaders. He finished with the adage, a version of which I’m sure you’ve heard before – ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast, lunch and dinner’. To further Jabbar’s point, and in my view, in 2023, culture is a huge competitive advantage. Ignore at your peril.
Our HR Growth team are perfectly positioned to support you with your People Strategy. This is no longer a ‘nice to have’ but critical to succeed. In this market, without a ‘people plan’, you’re dead in the water.
On the compliance side, our Employment law team have also been busy. Only this week did our Senior Employment Law Solicitor, Sarah, conclude a 15-month, complex litigation through a successful judicial mediation. The client was delighted and could move on with running the business.
Oh and finally, not only do we have Sarah Hake, a new Employment Law Advisor joining the team next week, my wife, Jen Howarth, is joining us in a marketing capacity. Wish me luck.
Have a great month ahead.
Gavin Howarth, Managing Director
