In memory of Mavis Nye 1941 – 2023.
At Howarths we are saddened to hear that Mavis Nye has recently passed.
Mavis Nye was diagnosed with incurable asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma in 2009, having been exposed to asbestos through washing the clothes of her husband Ray during his time working in the dockyards.
Mavis was a true inspiration; despite suffering from her own health issues, she campaigned passionately to raise awareness of the condition in order to save lives, and through her charity, The Mavis Nye Foundation supports those suffering from the cruel effects of asbestos exposure.
Despite being banned in 1999, asbestos still remains within millions of buildings and is a serious risk to anyone exposed at any age.
